It 'rare to find something in the landscape of science fiction powerfully conservative, very "right" as this saga of David Gerrold. Probably because the science fiction part of the current situation and extrapolate trends to criticize, analyze, or highlight some elements of our society that the author of the moment is frightening. In practice, science fiction by its nature can not be conservative because it is a kind of change that is its raison d'etre. The exceptions are some authors now born out of old junk that to replicate the success of the past wrapped in abject nonsense ultra-conservative, as Clarke and his Final Odyssey. Or novels as f Anteria space poorly understood and little beds that undergo a mark against their (undeserved in this case) "political". Gerrold wrote a real book instead of fiction, a good book in my view and then makes an 'operation ever attempted in my memory. Fortunately (or ignorance ...) the average reader of science fiction did not appreciate much this book, even without noticing 's political operation, I think especially for the sophistication of the implementation.
Our world, the earth, undergoes an invasion. A whole alien ecosystem, made up of plants, animals, insects, bacteria and virus arrives on our planet and attacks him.
Many species disappear, whole ecosystems are being devastated. The animal symbol of all is the "worm", a gigantic Vermona similar to those of dunes that goes and eats anything it finds.
To make matters worse many countries do not have a great desire to fight. The "emerging" countries seem not to care because of the defense of the planet. Do not cooperate properly. They refuse to use dozens of atomic bombs against the alien trees and grass. Even science is against the poor army. Scientists study study but do not come to any conclusion. We need an army lieutenant scompra that everything so tell those morons how it works.
We cheat the other countries, leading to a fait accompli, the subjugation of science to 'the army and release every three meters above a nice bomb that does so much good for the environment. Clearly, even the military are not perfect. For example, if they are not Canadian and American thoroughbreds are stupid and should be made to wash the dishes.
Since the planet is not aware of the threat must be to push a bit 'in favor of total war. In a general conference of the UN pretends to be eaten alive by a worm. Horrified all the delegates vote for what they want the United States. Obviously the cocks that generalone became really eat, it was all a trick.

The U.S. destroyed after Iraq and did not find any weapons of destruction are sadly leaving the country, possibly under the influence of Iran (!). Brazil took the piss in the book runs like a train under a left-wing administration, as throughout South America. The worms (red and mangiabambini ..) have won and lost McCarthy. Perhaps this climate of defeat followed the announced cycle is no longer released. Will Gerrold to continue this cycle or will have to wait at the end of the Obama (and maybe the 'beginning of the Palin ) to write again?
